Why Weddings AND Newborns? Why not one or the other?
I wish there was a fancier answer than because I bloody love both. I had my first baby boy in 2022 and prior to that I had been a primary school teacher for a decade. I had my very own muse! I realised how fleeting the moments were and how totally lost in a haze of it all I was. I had a really rough postpartum period and was sleep deprived and felt tons better everytime I spoke to someone about how deeply conflicting the feelings of love and yet pure torture were in my head!
Enter at home newborn sessions.
Because getting out of the house is a serious task on its own. I view both my photography elements the same. I will not make you feel uncomfortable, this is your space. We’ll have a coffee and we can chat all things birth, pregnancy, postpartum.
I am completely invested.
You can spend 40 minutes faffing, you can feed for the first hour of the session because babe won’t settle. I very rarely take on two sessions in a day because I never want you to feel any pressure. They are for you to love on, when the haze of postpartum has lifted and you can’t ever remember them being so small.
Then came the weddings.
It started slow then came all at once. Is it cliche to say I never intended it? Vom. Well I didn’t. I had an instagram DM come in from a friend who I hadn’t seen in 5 years. 4 months into my starting this journey. 4 months postpartum. “Hey darling, couple of things - my friends having a baby and we would love to gift her a shoot from you, oh and also, will you photograph our wedding?” I was completely honoured, but genuinely terrified. I figured I had a year until the wedding, and I’d hopefully figure it out by then! And then, I did. Posted the photos, and others started to message. “I didn’t realise you did weddings! We are getting married soon and would love you to photograph it, if possible?”
Fast forward 3 years. Each wedding brought something else to my life. I’m a hopeless romantic. I will watch rom-coms as background noise. I don’t care in which way it comes. When people are happy and in love, I can’t wipe the smile off of my face.
So, I don’t think I’ll ever choose between them, I love them both in different ways but they are both my favourite things to do.
